If you need a bit of persuading to take the plunge and fly south to Lanzarote this winter, or you know somebody that does, please see below and share this!
1) The UK government has removed Lanzarote from its quarantine-list. You are no longer required to self-isolate when you return to the UK.
2) The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office no longer advises against travel to Lanzarote. This is important for many travellers' insurance policies and just confirms the island is considered a safe destination. You'd be safer travelling to the island right now, rather than remaining in the UK!
3) The weather! Obviously. We're approaching November, where the average temperature daily high on the island is 23 degreees with a low of 16. Conversely, in the UK it is a high of 10 degrees with a low of 4. Warm up your winter.
4) Fortunately, Lanzarote boasts a great selection of private villas and apartments for you to relax in your own private space. Many are simply a home from home, yet with the added delight of the perfect winter weather.
We know from experience owners and agents are working hard to keep their properties as clean and safe as possible. Please search our site, and you can then contact the owner or agent directly to arrange your stay. Remember, booking direct will give you the best value. The likes of VRBO (previously HomeAway), Airbnb, Trip Advisor, Holiday Lettings and Booking.com will no doubt add on large fees and commissions, usually with you as the traveller swallowing the cost.
5) In terms of coronavirus, the government of the Canary Islands has an insurance deal with AXA to cover tourists. This is a great move and displays the Canarian government's confidence in their protocols to allow tourism to work safely. The only condition is that you do not knowingly have Covid-19 and travel with it.
Of course, in addition, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is still very much valid in Lanzarote. UK-issued EHICs are valid until 31st December 2020. For the usual travel insurance policies, Staysure often comes recommended by travellers.
6) Airlines are adding extra capacity and right now there are still many bargain flights to be had, with Jet2 and Tui re-starting their flights. Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways and Wizz Air (with new routes) all have flights from the UK too.
7) Understandably, right now some people may feel a little apprehensive about flying. However, detailed research by the IATA (International Air Travel Association) has concluded that the chances of catching coronavirus on a flight are less likely than being struck by lighting. Extraordinarily, the analysis says that between January and July this year, there have been just 44 cases where coronavirus is thought to have been transmitted during a flight, including confirmed, probable and potential cases. This is during a time of 1.2 billion passengers travelling by air. Airlines insist the quality of air and ventilation make for a safe environment. Taking sensible precautions, it's still a good time to travel.
