Can I travel to Lanzarote from the UK now?

Can I travel to Lanzarote from the UK?

In short, yes.

It's not illegal to travel to an 'amber' country and the Spanish border is open to British tourists.

For many people the 'amber' quarantine requirements are very prohibitive, but there are some people still willing and eager to travel to Lanzarote.

Whilst there have been flight cancellations, Ryanair are operating a reduced but reliable service. There are Ryanair flights from London Stanstead, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Bristol and East Midlands. Also, London Luton from this coming week too. Soon Ryanair hopes to expand to its usual wider airport base and increased frequency.

If the Canary Islands turn 'green', especially in time for the summer season, flights will be much more readily available.

Importantly, the Foreign Office doesn't advise against non-essential travel to the Canaries. This travel advice is commonly used for travel insurance policies being valid. Foreign Office advice is based on wider risks to a traveller, rather than just coronavirus.

Do I need a test to get on a flight to Lanzarote?

Currently, if travelling from the UK you do not need a negative test to enter Spain. However, if you are staying in a licensed villa, apartment or hotel, there is a local Canarian requirement.

You can use any of the following when checking-in to touristic accommodation:

(Children under 12 are excluded)

  • A negative test 72 hours before arrival in the Canary Islands. A rapid antigen test is acceptable for this.
  • A document to demonstrate you have been fully-vaccinated in the 8 months prior to your trip.
  • A document to demonstrate you have received at least 1 dose of a vaccine within the past 4 months and at least 15 days prior to your trip.
