Ireland to lift non-essential travel advice

From 19th July, the Republic of Ireland government's warning against non-essential travel will be lifted.

Quarantine-free trips to Lanzarote will be on. Summer is on!

The Irish government is adopting the EU Digital Covid Certificate, making travel much easier. You can get one in Ireland if you've been vaccinated, recently recovered or obtained a negative tests. There are no tests at all if you've been double-jabbed or recovered from coronavirus recently.

To enter Lanzarote from Ireland

  • A negative test 48 hours before arrival in Spain. PCR, TMA, LAMP and antigen tests are accepted. Private testing providers can provide you with a Digital Certificate.
  • A document to demonstrate that you have been fully-vaccinated, with the last dose at least 14 days prior to arrival in Spain. The certificate must show: name and surname, vaccination date (including the date of the last dose administered), type of vaccine, number of doses, issuing country and identification of the issuing body of the certificate. The EU Digital Covid Certificate is being emailed and posted.
  • A document to demonstrate recovery from coronavirus (if more than 11 days have passed since the first positive test, PCR, LAMP and TMA tests only). This certificate is valid for 180 days. If this applies to you, you will be able to request this Digital COVID Certificate via an emergency helpline from 19 July on 1800 851 504

To return to Ireland from Lanzarote

  • If you have valid proof of vaccination, no travel-related testing or quarantine will be necessary.
  • If you have valid proof that you have recovered from COVID in the past 180 days, no travel-related testing or quarantine will be necessary.
  • If you do not have valid proof of vaccination or recovery, you will need to present evidence of a negative RT-PCR result from a test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival into the country. From 19 July, children between the ages of 12 and 17 will be required to have a negative RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival to travel into the country, unless they have valid proof of vaccination or recovery.

Children of any age, travelling with accompanying vaccinated or recovered adults will not be required to self-quarantine post arrival. However, where one accompanying adult needs to self-quarantine, then all children must also self-quarantine.
