Everyone returning to the UK must pre-book coronavirus testing for after their arrival back in the UK.
Most travellers only need a single antigen (lateral flow) test. If you are unvaccinated you need two PCR tests (day 2 and day 8) and to quarantine for 10 days, or 5 days (England only) with a day 5 "test to release".
These are the rules for travellers that are double-vaccinated or under-18.
A few need-to-knows:
- Children under 5 do not need to do or book this test
- The test is called a "day 2" test, but it can actually be taken on the day you land in the UK or in any of the two following days
- Make a separate booking per traveller, as you will receive a unique code to enter in your passenger locator form
- If anybody tests positive, you are eligible for a free NHS PCR test
The tests are exactly like the NHS home testing kits, however the government stipulates you must only use private providers. Most travellers book a test to be posted to their address.
